West Virginia Northern Community College subscribes to an "open door" admissions policy, designed to encourage all adults to continue their education.

The College admits as "regular" students persons with a high school diploma or its equivalent, as transfer students anyone who has attended another college prior to enrolling at West Virginia Northern Community College and as transient students anyone officially enrolled at another college.

West Virginia Northern admits as "special" students foreign nationals and others who indicate that they can benefit from an instructional program or course.

Admission to the College does not necessarily imply eligibility to enroll in a course with established prerequisites or to enter a program that has a limited number of spaces and certain minimum entrance requirements.
