WVNCC Wheeling Friends Endows WVNCC Foundation

The Wheeling Campus Friends of the College organization at West Virginia Northern Community College has given funds to the WVNCC Foundation to begin a scholarship endowment.

At right is college President Martin J. Olshinsky. The endowment was made possible through funds raised by the Friends’ annual dinner, scheduled this year held on Sept. 20.

According to Becky Yesenczki, campus coordinator, board members of the Wheeling Campus Friends of the College have held an annual fund-raising dinner for the past several years. Yesenczki, who is college liaison with the Friends group, explained that each year the event has been more successful, with last year’s dinner resulting in more than $30,000 to assist with college infrastructure needs and scholarships.

Therefore, she said, the Friends board was able to award three scholarships to deserving students for the upcoming 2008-09 academic year and also had funds to start a scholarship endowment.

“Success of the dinner is attributed to the generosity of the community through sponsorships and attendance at the yearly event,” Yesenczki said, adding that “many businesses and individuals assist each year with monetary sponsorships, in-kind sponsorships and donations of items for the live and silent auctions.” She pointed out the dinner is prepared by the college’s culinary arts department and “always is a culinary extravaganza.”

If you are interested in more information about our yearly  dinners, contact Yesenczki at 214-8926.
