West Virginia College Goal Sunday to be Held at WVNCC

2/12/10

The first West Virginia College Goal Sunday event will be held at 17 sites throughout West Virginia, including the Wheeling campus of West Virginia Northern Community College, from 1-5 p.m. on Feb. 21.

The free event will be held in Room 219 of the WVNCC B&O Building, 1704 Market St., downtown Wheeling, and is an opportunity for students and parents to have financial aid experts provide assistance in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the cornerstone of the higher education financial aid application process.

The FAFSA is a crucial first step for all college students who plan to pay for college with the help of grants, scholarships, work-study funds and/or student loans.

Janet Fike, dean of enrollments management at West Virginia Northern, explained that the Wheeling campus is the central location for the event for the counties of Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler. She said financial aid experts from Northern, West Liberty University, Wheeling Jesuit University and Bethany College will be on hand to help those filling out the FAFSA.

Individuals who plan to attend college and would like help with completion of the FAFSA or would like answers regarding general financial aid questions are encouraged to attend. Interested students and parents are asked to bring their Social Security numbers, 2009 Federal Tax Return, W-2, other income records, driver's license and other valid ID to the session. Organizers explained the more income information that families can provide, the more likely they will be able to submit their FAFSA on the day of the event.
