West Virginia Northern Community College has received a grant for almost $14,000 from the Martha Parlin Trust to fund two mobile computer labs for the Academic Support Center on their Wheeling Campus. The mobile computer labs consist of 25 Chromebooks each and can be transported anywhere on campus for use in classrooms or labs.

This is the second such donation by the Parlin Trust. WVNCC received two mobile computer labs last year, however due to their popularity and campus expansion to five buildings now, there was a great need for additional carts. With the two additional carts, WVNCC now has 100 Chromebooks available to faculty, staff and students.

“These mobile computer labs have already expanded our ability to provide accessible technology and instruction to hundreds of students,” commented Academic Support Center Director CJ Farnsworth. “Feedback from students and instructors has been overwhelmingly positive, citing the user-friendly nature of the Chromebooks, as well as the impact these resources have on the ability of instructors and instruction to meet the diverse needs of students today.”

“WesBanco Bank is very pleased to continue to honor the philanthropic wishes of Robinson and Martha Parlin by providing grants that benefit Ohio County,” said Wesbanco Senior Vice President Anthony J. Habbit. “The mobile labs purchased with this grant will help the students in the disabilities program to fulfill their academic goals and aspirations. Since 1998, the Parlin Trusts have provided over $5.1 million dollars to charitable organizations in Ohio County that have benefited residents of Ohio County.”
