NEW STUDENTS:  Apply online and be fully accepted for admissions to a degree program offered at West Virginia Northern Community College.  Contact the Admissions Office if you need assistance or more information about applying for admission.  You’re welcome to apply for federal student aid while waiting to be admitted.  However, please be aware that students classified as “non-degree”, in accordance with federal regulations, may not receive federal aid.

ALL STUDENTS:

  1. Complete and submit a 2018-2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This FAFSA is used to apply for federal, state, and institutional financial aid for FALL 2018-SPRING 2019-SUMMER 2019.  April 15, 2018 is the priority deadline date for filing your FAFSA for colleges and universities in West Virginia to be considered for the State Grant.  March 1st, 2018 is the deadline date to file the FAFSA for 2018 High School Graduates meeting eligibilty requirements for the Promise Scholarship.  When filing your FAFSA, it is strongly recommended to transfer your income information through the IRS Data Retrieveal Process. 
  2. Complete a WVNCC Financial Aid Application for the school year you wish to receive aid.  Classes for the 2018-2019 school year begin August 2018. 
  3. Watch your e-mail account and/or mailbox for the notifications you will receive from the Federal Student Aid division of the U.S. Department of Education and our office after your FAFSA is submitted and processed.  Review your FAFSA data carefully.  If needed, make any corrections to your FAFSA information in accordance with instructions provided.
  4. A portion of all FAFSA applicants are selected by Federal Student Aid each year to have their FAFSA data verified.  If chosen, the Financial Aid Office will notify you.  Be sure to promptly submit all requested documents and/or clarifications so that we may efficiently process your financial aid file for you.
  5. Check your NOW account for any additional documents that may be required.
  6. If you are experiencing difficulties, please stop by the Financial Aid Office or your Campus Service Center for assistance.  You may also contact the Financial Aid Office by email at FinancialAidOffice@WVNCC.edu or 304-214-8844. 
  7. Pleaes read and respond to all mailed or e-mailed correspondence.  If you're unsure how to respond or what to do, please let us know!
  8. Please note that full-time enrollment (12 or more undergraduate credit hours per semester) is required to disburse 100% of your semester Pell Grant award.  A Pell Grant award will be pro-rated for less than Full-time enrollment.  Half-time enrollment (6 or more undergraduate credit hours per semester) is required to disburse Federal Direct Loans.
  9. Once we package your financial aid, you will receive an award letter notifying you of your aid for each semester.
  10. Credit balances/Title IV Refunds from federal funds after all tuition/fees/books/supply charges are paid will be available as scheduled each term.  Please see the Schedule of Classes for your term to reveiw the processing dates.
