Federal Direct Loan Info

Effective July 1, 2013

As a result of legislation enacted in July 2012, eligibility for the Direct Loan interest subsidy will be limited for new borrowers on or after July 1, 2013.  The law restricts the period of time for which a borrower may receive subsidized loans, in the aggregate, to 150 percent of the published length of the student's current educational program.  Once the student reaches that limit, he or she may borrow only unsubsidized loans, and interest begins to accure on the student's outstanding subsidized loan.

2016-2017 Federal Direct Loan Information

For Direct Subsidized Loans the rate is 4.29 (fixed) and for Direct Unsubsidized Loans the rate is 4.29 (fixed).  The current loan origination fee (subject to change) is 1.068 percent. For example, the fee on a loan for $1,750 would be $1,750 X 1.068 = $19 so the disbursement would be $1731 ($1,750 - $19)

First time Direct Loan borrowers at WVNCC are now required to attend In-Person Entrance Counseling Workshops. The Financial Aid Staff will be leading the workshops and will available to answer your loan questions on everything from applying for your loan to your repayment options after school.
