Lunch & Learn - Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD) 101

Open to the public

This Lunch and Learn session will shine a light on how we can better understand and support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including how to:

  • Define developmental disability, intellectual disability, and co-existing disorder
  • Identify common developmental disabilities
  • List common challenges of people with developmental disabilities

Our presenter, Courtney Lanham, is the Training Specialist at the West Virginia University Center for Excellence in Disabilities and an adjunct professor for the WVU School of Social Work; previously, they served as Behavior Specialist for the Positive Behavior Support program at the Center. They received their Bachelors in Psychology from WVU in 2009 and Masters of Social Work in 2011, focusing on clinical care for individuals struggling with mental health issues, as well as gender and sexuality. Courtney is a graduate of the Georgetown University Cultural and Linguistic Competence Leadership Academy.  They currently have interests in the training of staff and community members with a focus on diversity and cultural competence.
