Posted 10/23/25
West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) is giving community members the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop new skills through a series of photography classes this fall and winter. Taught by local photographer and instructor Larry Tackett, these hands-on courses will be offered at both the Wheeling and New Martinsville Campuses through February 2026.
Participants can start their journey behind the lens with Intro to Photography, which will cover camera setup, exposure, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, ISO, composition, and more. These one-day classes will be held on the New Martinsville Campus on November 1, 2025, and on the Wheeling Campus on November 8, 2025. Students will have the opportunity to share and discuss their images during class.
Those interested in digital editing can join Intro to Lightroom Classic, designed to help students manage and enhance photos using Adobe Lightroom. This class will take place on the New Martinsville Campus on November 22, 2025, and on the Wheeling Campus on December 6, 2025.
In January and February, students can take their skills to the next level with Mastering Photoshop I and Mastering Photoshop II. These classes will guide participants through essential and advanced Photoshop tools, including layers, retouching, blending modes, and compositing. Mastering Photoshop I begins on January 8 in New Martinsville and January 10 in Wheeling, while Mastering Photoshop II starts February 12 in New Martinsville and February 21 in Wheeling.
Each course is led by instructor Larry Tackett, who brings years of experience in photography and digital image editing. Students are encouraged to bring their own cameras and ensure they have access to the appropriate Adobe software for the Lightroom and Photoshop classes.
Registration is open now, and space is limited. To learn more or register, visit https://wvncc.coursestorm.com/category/photography.
Additional photography and video classes will be offered in the spring, providing even more opportunities for learners to enhance their creative and technical skills.
