West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) is offering two accelerated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Bootcamps this summer to help students quickly gain the skills needed for a rewarding career in emergency medical services.

The first session will be held at WVNCC’s Wheeling Campus beginning May 27, 2025, and running for five weeks. Classes will meet Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A second session will be held at the Weirton Campus starting July 7, 2025, also running for five weeks with the same Monday-Thursday schedule.

“This bootcamp is a great option for anyone looking to start a career in emergency services quickly,” said Mike Freeman, WVNCC's EMT Program Director. “Our intensive, hands-on training prepares students for real-world emergency situations, and there's a constant need for skilled EMTs in our communities.”

Both courses are offered in a condensed format and prepare students to provide emergency medical care to critically ill and injured patients. Students will learn the foundational skills necessary to stabilize patients and transport them for further care. Upon completion, students may choose to further their education and training to become advanced EMTs or paramedics—or transition into another healthcare profession. The program meets all the requirements for state and national EMT certification and licensing.

Emergency medical technicians are often the first to arrive on the scene of accidents, natural disasters, and other medical emergencies. EMTs can work for ambulance companies, fire departments, hospitals, or search and rescue teams. While responsibilities and certifications can vary, the profession provides a critical service to the community.
