Associate in Applied Science

The Mine Maintenance program is designed to prepare students for a career working in underground and surface mining maintenance departments.  This program includes a unique partnership with Murray Energy, the largest underground coal mining company in the U.S.  Once accepted, students will be required to complete a two-week training offered by Murray Energy. Upon acceptance into the program students will also have the opportunity to work part-time with Murray Energy. After successfully completing the program students will have the potential to be hired by Murray Energy full-time.

The types of training will include the Red Hat safety training, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, machine maintenance, and other applied technical courses currently offered at Northern. There will be mining maintenance specific courses taught with the majority of them in the second year. 

Current Co-op Earning Structure in the Program Students are paid for hours worked at company locations while enrolled.

Must apply to Murray Energy by July 8, 2020, to attend classes for the 2020 Fall Semester.
