Nursing A.A.S. Program Admission Requirements
Applicants requesting admission to the WVNCC Associate Degree Nursing Program must first meet the requirements for general admission to the college, including foundation requirements in math, reading, and English.
General Requirements for WVNCC ADN Program Admission
- High school graduate or equivalent (GED/TASC). Graduates of a non-US high school must obtain TASC/GED.
- English proficiency
- 2.5 cumulativecollege GPA
- Pre-nursing admission exam Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Composite Score of 58 or higher. See TEAS Information Page for details.
- Completion of the following pre-requisite: ENG 101 with a “C-grade or higher”. Completion of BIO 114 or BIO 220 with a “C grade” or higher is recommended, but not required prior to admission to the nursing program. (Refer to Program of Study)
- Applicants should be 18 years of age or older. If less than 18 years of age when starting the program, the student will be limited in performing some activities involving equipment in the clinical facility. Please consult Program Director.
- Applicants must be able to meet the “Technical Standards” as outlined in the Student Nursing Handbook in a manner that does not endanger themselves or others.
- Current and unrestricted student, having submitted Nursing application by the program deadline.
- Upon acceptance, students must pay $200 deposit to confirm their spot in the program and successfully complete a background check, drug screening, and physical examination by their health care provider.
- Mandatory attendance at the nursing program orientation as well as at the IT orientation is required before starting the program.
**Please note, this is a selective admission program with limited seats available on each campus. Candidates who meet the minimum admission requirements for acceptance into the nursing program will be ranked based on their composite TEAS score. In the event that candidates earn the same composite TEAS score, the cumulative college GPA will be used as the “tie breaker” to rank the applicant for the Fall admission.
Ineligibility for Admission/Readmission
A student is not eligible for admission/readmission/reinstatement to the WVNCC Nursing Program at any campus, under any status (including admission as a new, transfer, reinstate, or readmitted student) for any of the following reasons:
- The student earned a final clinical grade of a “ F” OR Unsatisfactory in the clinical component of any nursing course.
- The student has been readmitted/ reinstated once.
- The student was in violation of the WVNCC Code of Conduct at the time of withdrawal, failure or dismissal from the nursing program.
- The student was on probationary status from Nursing Disciplinary Committee or Director action.
- Positive drug screen (initial or random).
- Refusal to complete random drug screen.
- Student who attempts the TEAS Test two or more times during the academic year without a score of 58 is ineligible for consideration during that application cycle.
Licensure Requirements:
Applicants to the Associate Degree Nursing Program must be eligible to meet the requirements for licensure in the state of West Virginia as stated in the West Virginia Code.
These state licensure conditions include:
- Be a high school graduate or equivalent
- Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Be at least 18 years of age
The Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses may deny testing to any applicant proven guilty of certain infraction such as, but not limited to fraud, felony, domestic violence, or moral misconduct (Chapter 30, Article 7, Section 11, Code of West Virginia.)
