CELT Digital Badges

The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) offers digital badges to employees who complete select professional development opportunities through the CELT. These badges are issued through the Accredible platform and serve as a verified recognition of continued growth and learning.

Recipients can proudly display their badges in email signatures, on LinkedIn profiles, résumés, and CVs. Digital badges also provide valuable documentation of professional development for use in annual reviews and evaluations.

The Faculty Onboarding Course is designed to ensure new full-time and adjunct faculty are equipped for success at WVNCC. This self-paced, interactive course introduces participants to essential tools, resources, and expectations that support teaching excellence and student success.

Through this course, faculty will:

  1. Navigate the Employee Portal and resources accessible from the portal.
  2. Review faculty resources to support different aspects of your work at WVNCC.
  3. Explore the basics of the Brightspace Learning Management system to support student learning and success.  
  4. Review the student-centered communication expectations and syllabus requirements.  
  5. Review the WVNCC Bookstore and BookSaver program.  
  6. Explore resources available at WVNCC that provide students with help with classes, health, and wellbeing.

Modern Course Design is a professional development course created to support faculty with the design and development of courses through Brightspace training, Quality Matters, assessment, course outcome development and alignment, educational pedagogies, instructional design frameworks, and learner engagement strategies. 

Throughout the course, faculty will produce deliverables that allow them to revise and improve existing components of a course of their choice. 

Modern Course Design will be offered as three distinct professional development badges. Participants may choose to complete one, two, or all three badges. Participants who complete all three badges during the 2025-2026 academic year will receive the Modern Course Design Champion badge.

The CELT Presenter Badge series recognizes individuals who contribute to professional development at West Virginia Northern Community College by sharing their expertise through webinars, workshops, trainings, or sessions offered by the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. 

  • CELT Presenter - Awarded to any WVNCC employees who presents a webinar, workshop, training, or session through the CELT.
  • CELT Super Presenter - Awarded to any WVNCC employees who presents two (2) webinars, workshops, trainings, and/or sessions through the CELT.
  • CELT Ultra Presenter - Awarded to any WVNCC employees who presents three (3) webinars, workshops, trainings, and/or sessions through the CELT.

Student Support Champion Badge

This optional course is designed to help WVNCC employees become familiar with the wide range of support services available to students at West Virginia Northern.

The course covers key areas, such as:

  • Academic Resource Center (ARC)
  • Action Center
  • Bookstore and BookSaver
  • Financial Aid
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Mental Health
  • Student Activities
  • Student Services

By completing this optional course, WVNCC employees will gain a deeper understanding of how WVNCC supports students academically, personally, and professionally. They will be better equipped to guide students to the right resources and contribute to a culture of care and empowerment across all campuses.

To complete this course:

  1. Log into Brightspace
  2. Click Discover in the navigation bar
  3. Search for WVNCC Support Services Overview
  4. Click Enroll to add the course to your dashboard
