Open House Set at New Martinsville Campus

Posted 07/08/14

Area high school students and their parents are being urged to attend an open house at the New Martinsville campus of West Virginia Northern Community College to learn more about the new, much lower tuition for taking early entrance college courses.

College officials announced the open house will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the campus in downtown New Martinsville. Light refreshments will be served and attendees will be entered for a chance to win a free online early entrance course.

Campus Dean Larry Tackett pointed out the per credit hour tuition rate of just $25 “means that West Virginia high school students can take a three-hour credit college course for just $75.” He said those attending the open house will be provided details about early entrance courses and demonstrations on how the students can take these courses online.

“Along with the savings of more than a hundred dollars for a typical three-credit-hour college course, high school students can take advantage of the wide variety of online class options available at Northern,” Tackett said.

High school students and their parents will receive information on “the advantages and challenges” of taking courses via the online format.

Further information about the open house can be obtained by calling New Martinsville Campus Counselor Ina Robinson at 304-510-8769.
