'Superstars" at WVNCC Lunch & Learn

Posted 04/01/15

Wheeling historian Kate Quinn will present a program on “America’s First Superstars: Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill” at West Virginia Northern Community College’s Wheeling campus.

The free Lunch & Learn event, open to the public, will be held at noon on Thursday, April 9, in the Student Union, second floor of the Barnes & Noble bookstore building. Doors will open and lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m.

Those wishing to attend must RSVP to Program Coordinator Ida Williams by Tuesday, April 7, at either iwilliams@wvncc.edu or by calling 304-214-8917.

Quinn points out that Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley were as popular in their day as are today’s rock stars. She said the superstars visited Wheeling seven times and each trip had its foibles but they both loved the city. They were unique personalities, she said, and no one drew bigger crowds.
