West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) has greatly expanded learning opportunities with the addition of an Anatomage Table, an 8-foot, virtual dissection table with touchscreen technology. The Anatomage Table features high quality imaging software that allows students to examine a real human anatomy. Many of the world’s leading medical schools in the country use the life-sized, digital dissection table and WVNCC is only the second college in the state of West Virginia to offer this innovative technology to their students.

The Anatomage Table includes 3D images of both human and animals and includes over 2,500 images and medical case studies. Students are able to rotate the “patient” 360 degrees and dissect the body in any direction and at different layers including muscles, bones and organs. Students will also be able to perform dissections and surgical cuts, comparing normal and diseased anatomy.

“This state-of-the-art technology will transform the way our students are able to learn about the human body,” commented Bonnie Peterman, Allied Health Division Chair. “We will now be able teach anatomy at the highest level possible and our students are exploring the human body in much greater detail.”

The Anatomage Table is being used primarily by Northern students in Allied Health programs, such as Surgical Technology, Nursing, Radiology and more. However, students in Biology and Criminal Justice will be able to utilize the equipment for their classes too.

“Our number one goal at Northern is student success. This technology gives our students the best possible technology to learn while at Northern and will give them a distinct advantage when starting their career after graduating,” added WVNCC President Dr. Daniel Mosser.
