Fueling for the Semester: Nutrition & Movement

Setting the Foundation for Success

August is a month of transition. As we prepare for the start of a new academic year, it’s the perfect time to audit the habits that fuel our bodies and minds. Staying energized throughout a long day of classes and studying requires more than just caffeine—it requires a foundation of consistent nutrition and movement.

At WVNCC, we want to help you build habits that aren't just "summer resolutions," but sustainable practices that will carry you through finals week and beyond.

3 Tips for a High-Energy Semester

  • Smart Snacking for Brain Power: When you’re on the go between classes, your blood sugar can dip, leading to "brain fog" and irritability. Aim for snacks that combine protein with complex carbs (like an apple with peanut butter or a handful of almonds) to keep your energy stable.
  • Find Your Campus Rhythm: You don’t need a two-hour gym session to stay fit. Movement is cumulative! Take the stairs in the B&O building, park a little further away, or take a quick lap around the block between sessions. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate activity per week.
  • Hydration is Key: Fatigue is often the first sign of dehydration. Carry a reusable water bottle and aim to finish it at least three times during the school day. Your brain is about 75% water—keep it fueled!
