Incoming Transfer Student

West Virginia Northern Community College welcomes transfer students from other colleges. Transfer students must provide an official transcript from each American Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) accredited institution. Transfer students must have official transcripts sent directly from the Records Office of their previous institution(s) to the Registrar's Office at West Virginia Northern. West Virginia Northern Community College accepts transcripts in their original sealed envelopes as well as electronic transcripts that are sent directly from the issuing institution. Transcripts marked "Issued to Student" are not official. If students have attended more than one institution, transcripts from all institutions are required. All transfer students must submit evidence of good standing from the college most recently attended. Transcripts cannot be older than 120 days.

Transfer students who were dismissed from other colleges for disciplinary purposes must disclose the dismissal on their application for admission and are required to undergo review to determine if they will be admitted.

The College accepts transfer credits from all regionally accredited institutions and from other institutions on an individual basis. Students who have submitted official transcripts from accredited colleges will have a transfer evaluation. The transfer evaluation identifies West Virginia Northern equivalencies for transfer courses. Students may appeal decisions by completing a Student Petition for Alteration in Graduation or Program Requirements, available at all campus Service Centers.

All grades earned in colleges previously attended are included in the grade point average calculation. Exempt from this provision are courses falling under the West Virginia Board of Directors D-F Repeat Policy, Deletion of Outdated Coursework from Computation of Grade Point Average Policy and other applicable West Virginia Northern Community College policies. To graduate from West Virginia Northern, transfer students must have at least a 2.0 average for all college work attempted, must have earned a minimum of 15 semester hours of credit at West Virginia Northern Community College, and must meet the testing policy requirements. Transfer students who have earned fewer than 30 semester credit hours from an accredited college and who have graduated from high school in the last five years must provide copies of their high school transcript upon admission to the College.

The College retains all transcripts submitted for a two-year period. Students who do not enroll within this period must resubmit all required documents, including transcripts. Students who enroll at West Virginia Northern without reporting all previous colleges attended may be subject to the College's disciplinary procedures.

All out-of-state, full-time, transfer students who were born after January 1, 1957, are required to provide proof of immunity to measles and rubella (see Admission Procedures for details).
