HOW WILL YOUR CLASS MEET?

Understanding your course format before you register

WVNCC courses are offered in several formats. Your course format tells you when and where you’ll learn, whether you need to attend at a specific time, and how you’ll participate.

Take a look at the options below so you know what to expect before you register.

In Person Format IconIN PERSON

You attend class on campus at scheduled days and times.

In-person courses meet in an assigned classroom on the campus listed in the course schedule.

Some classes are shared between campuses. In these courses, your instructor may teach from another campus and connect with your class through video conferencing.

Wondering how often your instructor will be physically on your campus? Contact your instructor or Advising before registering.


ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS Format IconONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS

100% online with no required live class meetings.

You complete your coursework online through Brightspace without joining class at a specific day or time.

Important: Online does not mean self-paced. You will still have assignments, activities and deadlines to complete on schedule.

If a course includes a lab, the lab will also be completed online.


ONLINE SYNCHRONOUS Format IconONLINE SYNCHRONOUS

100% online with required live class meetings.

You attend class online through video conferencing at the scheduled days and times listed for the course.

Course materials and assignments are provided through Brightspace.


Hybrid Format IconHYBRID

A combination of in-person and online learning.

You will have some scheduled class meetings and some coursework completed online. Depending on the course, your online learning may include independent work in Brightspace and/or scheduled live online meetings.

You are expected to participate at the days and times listed in your course schedule and syllabus.


Hyflex Format IconHYFLEX

You choose how you attend.

HyFlex (Hybrid Flexible) courses give you multiple ways to participate. Depending on the course, you may:

  • Attend class live on campus
  • Attend live online through video conferencing
  • Watch recorded class sessions or pre-recorded content
  • Use a combination of these options
  • Course content is provided through Brightspace.
